CNN —Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake expressed regret in a recent interview that Arizona’s century-old abortion ban was not being enforced by the state’s Democratic leadership, remarks that appear at odds with her recent public opposition to the law. “The Arizona Supreme Court said this is the law of Arizona, but unfortunately, the people running our state have said we’re not going to enforce it. The attorney general’s website states that “the earliest the 1864 territorial abortion ban may take effect is June 8, 2024.”CNN has reached out to Lake’s campaign for comment. But as a candidate for Senate, Lake has flipped her position on the abortion law. Lake acknowledged during a campaign event in Scottsdale last week that she had a “little bit of a shift” in her stance on the abortion law but insisted she was “still pro-life.”Lake’s comments against the abortion ban drew criticism from anti-abortion advocates.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem like lovely people. Netflix dropped "Pearl," an animated children's series Meghan created through her and Harry's production company, Archewell Productions, before it even premiered. The audio-streaming company signed a deal with Harry and Meghan in 2020 reportedly worth $20 million. As Michael Pachter, a managing director at Wedbush Securities who's covered movies, entertainment, and tech for two decades, explained, it's because they've still got that $100 million deal. A public breakup with Meghan and Harry may also be a mess Netflix doesn't want to deal with.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I've been trying to get pregnant for months now. I want to be a single mother by choice, and have actually been working with a sperm donor here in DC. But it occurs to me…you would be an excellent candidate for the role of biological father to my baby… Would you ever consider being a sperm donor? It really would mean a lot to me for my child to have a relationship with the donor. Read previewDonald Trump's views on a national abortion ban have not exactly been transparent. But then, last week, after Arizona's Supreme Court revived a near-total abortion ban dating back to 1864, Trump said the court had gone too far and that he wouldn't sign a national abortion ban if it came across his desk. Merle Hoffman, a longtime abortion activist, told Business Insider that some women have started to stockpile abortion pills like Mifepristone. "We've already seen women going ahead and getting tubals and their partners going ahead and getting vasectomies. Mike Pence said he will not endorse Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election. AdvertisementFormer Vice President Mike Pence said he would not endorse his old boss, Donald Trump, for president in the 2024 election. "It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year," Pence told Fox News on Friday. "Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years, and that's why I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign," Pence said. During the January 6 attacks on the Capitol, some rioters chanted "Hang Mike Pence," and Trump later defended them.

NASA’s new Space Launch System rocket, which made its first flight in November 2022, holds the current record for the maximum thrust of a rocket: 8.8 million pounds. The maximum thrust of the Saturn V rocket that took NASA astronauts to the moon during the Apollo program was relatively paltry: 7.6 million pounds. An even more transformative feature of Starship is that it is designed to be entirely reusable. That means all of the really expensive pieces — like the 33 Raptor engines in the Super Heavy booster and six additional Raptors in Starship itself — will be used over and over instead of thrown away into the ocean after one flight. Starship and Super Heavy are shiny because SpaceX made them out of stainless steel, which is cheaper than using other materials like carbon composites.

Lay your bent right leg on the cushion so your shin is parallel to the couch edge. If your right knee is lifted significantly off the couch, you can also slide a pillow under that knee for support. Stretch 3: Hamstring stretch with a twistWhile standing, facing your couch, bend into a semi-squat position with your knees just above 90 degrees. At the same time, straighten your right leg only — leaving your left leg bent. Inhale as you rotate your right arm up and straighten the right leg for the hamstring stretch.

Many of the world’s biggest financial firms spent the past several years burnishing their environmental images by pledging to use their financial muscle to fight climate change. Now, Wall Street has flip-flopped. In recent days, giants of the financial world including JPMorgan, State Street and Pimco all pulled out of a group called Climate Action 100+, an international coalition of money managers that was pushing big companies to address climate issues. Bank of America reneged on a commitment to stop financing new coal mines, coal-burning power plants and Arctic drilling projects. And Republican politicians, sensing momentum, called on other firms to follow suit.

While much of Europe's startup ecosystem has been hobbled by the rocky macroeconomic environment and soaring interest rates, climate tech has continued to lure funds from venture capitalists. Many climate tech companies work with hardware, meaning debt financing is also an attractive non-dilutive option for working capital between funding rounds. Global private market equity and grant funding for climate tech startups is actually down – it slid 40% to $65 billion in the 12 months ending September 30, according to PwC. Some smaller climate tech companies have made cuts, including vertical farming company InFarm, which retreated from Europe and was declared bankrupt in the Netherlands. Generally, however, layoffs have been a boon for climate as big tech talent has moved into or launched climate tech startups.

Ron DeSantis squared off against Gavin Newsom on Thursday night in a pointless debate. It's difficult to accurately say who "won" a debate, but the night didn't go smoothly for DeSantis. No humans died on Thursday — unlike the "Crash at Crush" — but the night was still a trainwreck for DeSantis' presidential campaign from the very beginning. Following the first GOP presidential debate this year, Business Insider and several other outlets called Vivek Ramaswamy a breakout star after commanding attention away from his competitors. Unfortunately for DeSantis, the legacy of Thursday night's debate likely won't be about how the Florida governor turned his flopping campaign around against all odds.

Opinion | Nikki Haley Is Coming for Your Retirement
  + stars: | 2023-11-27 | by ( Paul Krugman | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
It feels like years ago, but actually only a few months have passed since many big Republican donors seemed to believe that Ron DeSantis could effectively challenge Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. At this point, both conventional wisdom and prediction markets say that Trump has a virtual lock on the nomination. But Wall Street isn’t completely resigned to Trump’s inevitability; there has been a late surge in big-money support for Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina. From a political point of view, one answer might be: nothing. Haley has never really shown a willingness to stand up to Republican extremists — and at this point the whole G.O.P.

Upending the race dynamics might prove more daunting for Mr. Biden than for his predecessors. But there is not much the Biden campaign can tell voters about Mr. Trump that they don’t already know. (Or for that matter, not much Mr. Biden can tell voters about Mr. Biden that they don’t already know.) When Mr. Bush’s campaign began planning for his re-election, they confronted polling numbers that — while not as unnerving for the president as some that have come out in recent weeks about Mr. Biden — were cause for concern. The Patriot Act was passed shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks with overwhelming support in Congress — including Mr. Kerry.

Britain's dramatic rollback of its net zero ambitions will threaten climate tech startups' ability to raise fresh capital from investors, industry experts have warned. Sunak said the government remained committed to its obligation to reach net zero by 2050, despite the u-turns. He also unveiled a grant for boiler upgrades, reforms to energy infrastructure planning, and £150 million ($183 million) for the development of green tech. Climate tech is particularly exposed to this as it changes on a country-by-country basis, compared with health tech which has a "stable" and well-established regulatory process. "The bottom line for me is that it will happen independently of the politics now," said SE Ventures' Christiani.

Previously, Democratic governors who had backed school choice measures had done so in compromise deals with Republican-controlled legislatures. Vouchers have long been viewed in stark partisan terms: Democrats and public school allies say they drain critical resources from public schools. Republicans and school choice advocates say they give freedom to families who may not like their local public schools. That had motivated public school advocates and Democrats to demand billions more for the poorest public schools, a quest that Shapiro has said he supports.
